On this Saint Patrick’s Day, which honors the patron saint of Ireland, besides the wearing of the green, we might like to know what linguistic heritage has come down to us from the Emerald Isle. Particularly in American English, there is much influence of Irish phrases and idioms, due to the Irish diaspora to the United States in the 19th century.

In her blog on OxfordWord, Katherine Martin notes the arrival in English of “trousers,” “slob,” and “galore,” among others. Wikipedia likewise posts a list of words borrowed from Irish, with the palindromic “bog” and “gob” among them (quite an onomatopoetic tongue, Gaelic).

Perhaps more than the words we owe to the Irish, though, we should honor the Irish poets who have made such fine use of English words, especially the incomparable William Butler Yeats and the late Seamus Heaney, who passed away in 2013. 4. Ask: La información se la obtiene a través de respuestas a las preguntas que el buscador ha ido almacenando. Y que generalmente resumen lo más relevante.

5. Laabel: Un buscador basado en las preferencias y consejos de los usuarios de la red, en esta opción solo aparecerán las páginas que hemos indexado.
